Isla de Mezcala, also known as Isla del Presidio, is located across from the town of Mezcala de la Asunción. This place was used as a strategic point by the army as a defensive fort against the Spanish government. Later, El Presidio operated from 1826 to 1855 for the towns near Lake Chapala in Jalisco and Michoacán, where most of the criminals arrived at the Presidio de Mezcala accused of crimes of violation. At the end of the tour we continue our visit with a stop for lunch in Ajijic, a magical town that charms visitors with its simplicity, its boardwalk and its colorful streets.
